House rule number one: the window gets opened first
Light has the right of way (hey)

Rule two: before the bad news, find the sunlight on the floor
It was there the whole time, and nobody charged for it
Rule three: every storm has a back door
Ask where it goes, and bring a good coat
Rule four: the glass is whatever you pour into it
And I am pouring something gold

Rule five (rule five)

Silver first

A flat tire is a free lesson in walking
Look at the streetlamps, they are all showing off
Rule six: when someone says never, hum a little louder
The universe is a terrible listener but a wonderful tuner
Rule seven: any day above ground is a good day for a song
Rule eight: there is no rule eight, go outside

Gold on the left, gold on the right
The glass was full before I looked

Outside

Bright side first, and then the dark with the lights on
Every shadow has a lamp to blame
I keep a list of what is going right
And it is longer than I ever planned

House rule number one: the window gets opened first
