Móðir I write you from a longship at sea,
The stars are the only light that's lettin' me see.
I know that I left I know that it hurt,
Traded the farm for the blood and the dirt.
You told me the day that they carried father home,
Boy be the steel, never bend, never roam.
But the sea kept on callin' and I answered the cry,
Now I'm raisin' an axe to a blood-red sky.
I wasn't the easiest son I confess,
Skipped the harvest, skipped the feasts, caused you stress.
You fed me, you dressed me, you blessed every blade,
And every longship I raid, I raid in your name.

Dear Móðir I'm sailin' far,
Wish I could stay where you are.
Dear Móðir don't you weep,
I will come home from the deep.

You worked the cold soil with the calluses torn,
Carried the household through the longest of storms.
I came home bloody from my very first fight,
You stitched up my shirt and you held me tight.
Never once told me to put down the blade,
Just said come home safe son before I'm laid.
The saga of you is the song that I sing,
You gave me the heart that they couldn't break, queen.
Mama I know I was a storm you had to bear,
And I left a few scars that I can't quite repair.
But every coin I bring home, every song I sing,
Is a thank-you to the mother who gave me my wings.

Dear Móðir I'm sailin' far,
Wish I could stay where you are.
Dear Móðir don't you weep,
I will come home from the deep.

Móðir... if I don't come back from the West,
Bury me where the fjord meets the pine.
And tell them your son was a man of the sea,
Of the steel... and of the line.
